Weekly RunDown #41

Steve Scott
"If you have a bad workout or run a bad race, allow yourself exactly 1 hour to stew about it--then move on."

Some good thoughts here on Five Training Principles to Live By

When you are good your are good. Chrissie Wellington of Ironman fame is the first women at her first Ultra and second overall at the Race to the Tower in the Cotswalds.  Then again she did just run the 2017 London Marathon in 2:49:01 placing 13th among women and 1st in the women's 40-44 age group.  I say if she takes this up as her sport in her "retirement" watch out.

iRunFar.com's This Week in Running: June 12, 2017

LetsRun.Com's The Week That Was in Running: June 5 - 11, 2017

The Western States 100 is almost here (June 24-25, 2017) and iRunFar has posted the Women's Preview and the Men's Preview.   Also from iRunFar here is Part 3 of Andy Jones-Wilkins' 4 Part series on the race: AJW's Predictions for the Women's Race.   In case you missed them here is Part 2Part 1.

With regards to Western States it is good to see a number of people who have been in the Lottery for 5 years or more that are on the Wait List get in.  There is still someone at #39 who has been in the lottery 6 years and one at #49 who is at 5 years waiting.  Seems to me, and this is just my opinion, that if you have tried 5 times you should get an automatic qualifier, just saying.

After winning Comrades on the 3rd of June Camille Herron gets ready to run Western States next week

I was reading this article at Competitor.com, Endurance Fatigue: Perception is Everything, and it reminded me of Tim Noakes Central Governor Theory and iRunFar wrote on this, Peak Performance and the Selfish Brain, and my take-away is the mind is critical but externals play heavily into the picture so you have to work with both.

Allie Ostrander took up the Steeplechase this year and won NCAA's after some injury problems.  Allie for some may be best known for her running of the Mount Marathon run in Alaska.

Largest Road Races in the US in 2016, other than Boston this might be my list of races to stay away from as for me these large races are just a logistical pain.  I guess once it starts it is not too bad but not sure the work to get to the start is worth it.

The 57th running of the Mount Washington Road Race should be a good one
