Weekly RunDown #34

Tom Fleming next to Bill Rodgers W/Frank Shorter Following
"Somewhere, someone in the world is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win."
Tom Fleming (1951 - 2017)

Not sure how many of you may remember Tom Fleming who was twice the winner of the New York Marathon (73' & 75') before it left the borders of Central Park and was also twice a runner up at Boston (73' & 74').  He was one of the runners I remember as that was back when I started running.  Tom (1951-2017) passed away this past week & Toni Reavis writes a nice piece on him.  Here is another nice piece from NorthJersey.com: Remembering Tom Fleming, a towering figure in the running world

Nice talk with Jeff Browning, during a race: Chasing Jeff Browning.

Speaking of Jeff Browning, or maybe I should say speaking with, here are a couple good podcasts with him:  Thinking Podcast Episode 26 (Pt 1)  & Episode 26 (Pt 2)

Tim writes on why he runs and how that reason has changed: Ten Years On, Why Do I Still Run.  Made me remember why I started running 44+ years ago in HS.   When I did not make the Tennis Team I for sure did not want to take PE and they had canceled football, err soccer, so I was left with X-Country, so that is how it started.  I have been running, or racing bikes, pretty much ever since and now run and race because I just like to.

Nice to see Timothy Olson back at the front in winning the Penyagolosa Trail race in Castellon Spain

OK, I am a guy that misses Tony Krupika on the Ultra scene.  Not to say I am not a fan of watching what Jim Walmsley can do, following what Jeff Browning will accomplish next and am amazed at all Mike Wardian does.  But Tony was just different and that what made him such a great addition to the running/ultra world. Here is a good article on this topic: Trail and Ultra Running in the Post-Krupicka Climate.  By the way this is the second article today from TrailFlow, good stuff there.  Also, see video below on Tony.

Don't forget to check out the Q & A with Mark Cucuzzella and posted earlier this week

Here is a look at the running form of the leaders in the Boston and London Marathons.  Whether you hold to the analysis or not it is interesting to notice the differences.
